MARCH 30TH AND 31ST VIA ENGAGE

VOTE HANNAH EDWARDS

Institutional Change

By implementing fresh and revolutionary initiatives at the institutional level, I hope to help transform the culture and the legacy of GW. Students should graduate from a university they feel proud to have attended. GW should be a trendsetter for our peer institutions. Engaging the alumni network and the broader DC community will create a shared space on campus and foster a sense of community. In order to recruit a more diverse student body, GW has to become more accessible to individuals from various backgrounds. Representation matters.

Inclusive Culture

Students should feel safe on campus. The Student Association will provide a platform for students by facilitating events like the LGBTQIA+ Health and Advocacy Conference (LHAC) and an interfaith dinner dialogue. Student organizations will be provided opportunities to host issue-specific presentations. With an emphasis on education as a preventative method, the creation of peer education programs in multiple offices will help student leaders increase self awareness and cultural competency.

Innovative Collaboration

The lack of community on campus was salient even before GW students were not able to return to campus last March. Opportunities to engage in community-wide events like a Senior Send of Celebration and residence hall meet and greets will help create community on campus. Philanthropic events like the Foggy 5k Run/Walk for DC public schools will introduce GW to the broader DC community. All of the proposed initiatives will foster a greater sense of community among organizations outside of the SA who will be invited to cosponsor these events.

ABOUT ME

My sole purpose for running for Student Association President is to redefine student and community engagement. In addition to supporting long-awaited initiatives at the institutional level, I hope to execute fresh and revolutionary ideas. With genuine enthusiasm, creativity, and commitment, I hope to transform the legacy of GWU by implementing my 15-point plan. As your President, I will ensure safe campus return, improve mental health resources, establish peer education programs, organize a Foggy 5k Run/Walk & more!

The relationships that I have established with student organizations, and various offices and organizations both on and off-campus will enable me to achieve the aforementioned goals. I served as Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion of the Student Association for two consecutive administrations. In this role, I acted as an advocate for students by facilitating conversations with administration and organizing student-led initiatives including the first annual LGBT+ Health and Advocacy Conference (LHAC). I want to set a precedent for future SA administrations of what honest leadership and effective governance looks like. Being from Kansas City, Missouri, the GWU community has become my home away from home, and I plan to build a broader foundation for future generations. Let’s make history.
